Executive summary:
- H2GO Power started with a Ph.D. project I completed at the University of Cambridge developing energy storage technologies. I completed my Ph.D. at Cambridge University, where I was also a postdoctoral fellow and elected Cambridge University Energy Champion. I am also a Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellow and a technology expert consultant to the European Commission (REA) and sit on the advisory board of General Atlantic’s BeyondNetZero Fund, one of the largest growth equity investment funds worldwide.
- In addition, I have won several awards and recognitions for my work at H2GO Power, including the Visionary of the Year Award by MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35 Europe and the Best Energy Start-Up Award at the Global Hello Tomorrow Summit. I was also selected by the Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards in 2018 as one of the 18 best women entrepreneurs globally. Apart from awards, I have traveled to several countries worldwide on government-support partnership missions. I have also delivered speeches at well-known impactful events such as World Economic Forum, TEDxMIT Tech Review EMtech, Financial Times Energy Summit, Women’s Forum, UN Global Compact-LEAD Symposium, Google @ Think and more.
What is your field of expertise?
I am an expert in green hydrogen storage technologies with 15 years of research and business experience in hydrogen production & storage, catalysis, renewable energy, and energy storage. I have a passion for climate leadership and clean energy technology policy.
Describe your journey to where you are today.
I started my Ph.D.in 2010 to explore H2 generation and storage science. Later this study would evolve into what is now part of the Cleantech field. Through this Ph.D.program at Cambridge University, I founded the genesis of what is now H2GO Power and the core of our technology offering.
Eight years ago, H2 was not an exciting molecule. The market momentum was not there, and the climate conversation was not particularly a mainstream theme like it is today.
Despite all that, we embarked on a mission during my Ph.D. final project to explore how we can develop reliable and resilient hydrogen storage solutions to elevate this fuel type into something that could transform our world. We were particularly excited about the technology at hand, but more than that, we realized the impact it could have if it was developed and deployed at scale. The next 10+ years were long and rigorous, with many ups and downs and many educational activities to engage with investors, collaborators, partners, policy makers and the public.
Ultimately, we landed where we are today with several initiatives in the UK. Most notably, one in the Orkney Islands, which we recently announced will include collaboration with several industry-leading partners and the UK Government. A few more to be announced soon.
What does your company do, for whom, and how does it fit into the bigger picture of solving global issues with clean tech?
H2GO Power is revolutionizing hydrogen storage solutions to reduce costs by as much as 50 percent dramatically. The company eliminates the need for compression to store commercial-scale green hydrogen made from renewable sources for use in a wide range of commercial, industrial, and residential applications, including refueling stations, heat and power, gas networks, and power and grid stability. H2GO Power delivers clean, accessible, and reliable hydrogen energy from renewable sources that meet decarbonisation targets fast, bringing beneficial social impact to millions worldwide. Our vision is to create smart technologies that drive the transition to a more sustainable planet.
What do you think is the most important thing we can be doing in terms of clean tech solutions?
At this stage, it is scaling and execution. The tech and the demand are available; we need to drive adoption.
