Spain-based wind energy giant Gamesa continues to be among the leading solutions provider in India’s wind energy market.
Gamesa has reported that it secured orders totalling 460 MW capacity from seven projects in India. The orders will help Gamesa maintain a healthy lead over competitors and potentially make it the leading turbine manufacturer in India for a fourth consecutive year.
The company did not provide details of the projects or their owners or geographical location. The orders include supply of 170 of its G114-2.0 class S turbines (340 MW) and 60 of its G97-2.0 MW class S (120 MW) turbines. The company claims that both turbine models are ‘specifically configured for the Indian market with the aim of maximising turbine performance at low wind speed sites.’ Gamesa shall be responsible for supply and erection of the turbines, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the projects.
All the projects are expected to be operational by Q1 2017.
Over the last three years, Gamesa has opened by a considerable lead over India-based Suzlon Energy, once the leading wind turbine manufacturer in the country. The company has been able to capitalise on the sharp growth the Indian wind energy market has seen over the last few years.
In 2015, the company secured orders worth 1,300 MW and increase of 54% over 2014. According to the information available on the company website, the total order book for 2016 stands at 698 MW after including the recent orders of 460 MW.
