If you liked Peter Asmus’ recent article about the Locavolts movement in California, now you might have the chance to meet with him personally. On September 13, he will be speaking in Point Reyes, California. He will talk about his new book Introduction to Energy in California and highlight why West Marin is a potential model for taking charge of its own energy production. At this event, you will learn about the movement to transition communities from dependence on fossil fuels to a future based on local food, local energy, and local farming.
There are a couple of other interesting speakers lined up:
Bernie Stephen of Transition West Marin will describe how communities can create resilience and reduce carbon emissions in response to peak oil and climate change.
MALT’s Stewardship Director Patricia Hickey will talk about local farmland and its potential as a solution to global warming through carbon sequestration and local food.
But the event features much more than just talking. Together with Jeff Creque, you will hike through the olive orchards up to the windmill and past the compost piles to McEvoy Olive Ranch. The agricultural ecologist will share his knowledge of the composting project and its connection to the Marin Carbon Project and introduce you to wind energy.
KT’s Kitchen will serve local food delicacies.
