Executive summary:
I would say that my professional highlight is certainly starting and maintaining a hardware-based cleantech startup. It is certainly no walk in the park. Throughout this adventure, I have experienced some of the greatest challenges in life as well as some of the best rewards. Every day is an opportunity to grow and learn. I am thankful for my wonderful team for allowing me to become a better leader.
What is your field of expertise?
I have worked in various fields across different continents, bringing together technical innovation and environmental sustainability for everyday living. I have always been passionate about solar energy technology. I got my start in the solar industry 15 years ago when the industry was still in its relative infancy. It has been amazing to see this industry flourish and grow into what it is today.
Describe your journey to where you are today.
I was raised to believe that we are all connected on this planet as one single human family. I studied International Studies so that I could help further international relations. I then realized that the most urgent threat facing our collective progress as a global society is the potential for catastrophic changes due to climate change. The world needs access to clean, renewable energy. I believe this to be the challenge of our lifetime, and I couldn’t imagine working in any other field.
What does your company do, for whom, and how does it fit into the bigger picture of solving global issues with clean tech?
Yotta Energy’s ultimate goal is to build commercial solar + storage systems that bring value to building owners and the grid. We believe we are at the forefront of developing what we see as the future of distributed energy storage. Maximizing the space on commercial flat roofs with our PV-Coupled™ architecture, we can sell energy back to the grid with our technology and microgrid. The primary purpose is to help meet the energy demands of the current electrification of the grid. For example, building owners may install some systems on rooftops that don’t power the building, but instead, the rooftop acts as the real estate for that distributed energy system or power plant. Yotta’s technology features advanced thermal management to maintain an optimal working temperature, even under extreme outdoor conditions, including heat waves and cold fronts.
What do you think is the most important thing we can be doing in terms of clean tech solutions?
There is a severe shortage of technology for the solar and storage industries for the C&I industry. For this technology to be widely adopted, we need to ensure cleantech solutions are available for everyone, not just some markets. In addition, as the effects of climate change become more drastic every year, we need technology that is resilient in the face of natural disasters and extreme temperatures. The ability to adapt to harsh environmental conditions is crucial for cleantech solutions to succeed. That is why we have developed breakthrough Phase-Change/Heat-Exchange technology that maintains the batteries at their preferred working temperature (70-100 degrees Fahrenheit) This is why we have created a durable energy storage product that is designed to withstand the elements and extreme weather utilizing our patented thermal management system.
What do you wish you could tell the younger you? What would’ve been incredibly helpful to you 10 years ago?
Don’t be afraid to take on the big risks. Be confident in yourself and always follow your gut instinct. It is there for a reason.
