Renewable energy developer ScottishRenewables has announced the commencement date for pre-construction works for the 714 megawatt (MW) East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm it is developing off the east coast of England.
ScottishRenewables, a subsidiary of Spanish utility Iberdrola, announced earlier this month that it would begin pre-construction works for the 714 MW East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm in January, 2017. Unsurprisingly, Iberdrola Engineering & Construction has been appointed to undertake the engineering design and is the Principal Contractor for the pre-construction and construction works, and work will also begin immediately on the 37-kilometer onshore cable route.
In addition, pre-construction works will include a number of highways improvements to minimize traffic issues during construction.
At the time the East Anglia ONE wind farm was announced, the project was hailed as “the best value offshore wind farm in the world” which ScottishRenewables was delivering at £119 MWh — more than 15% lower than other offshore wind farms under construction in the UK.
“East Anglia ONE will deliver substantial environmental benefits for the UK, it will stimulate considerable UK investment, and it will support thousands of jobs,” explained Charlie Jordan, ScottishPower Renewables East Anglia ONE project director. “Offshore wind has proven itself as a technology that works, and the more offshore wind capacity we have in the UK, the more secure our energy supplies will be.
