The Sierra Club has created an online action center to to keep people informed about the oil spill in the gulf of Mexico last month. The site offers the latest news and updates on the spill as well as offering people ways to volunteer.
The Sierra Club is calling for President Obama to stop all new drilling off America’s coasts immediately and permanently, stating:
This dirty and dangerous practice has no place in a 21st century energy economy. Instead of risking our lives, our coasts, our clean air, and our security by perpetuating our addiction to oil, it’s time to build a clean energy economy that means more jobs, less pollution, and real energy independence.

WAKE UP. It is ridiculus to say that BP owns the equipment. Write BP a check for the equipment out of TARP funds. President Obama should STOP being a lawyer that is legally trying to protect the wealth of private companies and be a leader that is trying to protect the sovereignty of the United States. Solve the problem. There is an U.S. international ruling that gives Obama the legal authority to stop the spill but it also gives other countries the right to protect their assets. All global assets are under the stewardship of sovereign states. If the United States and western Europe did not believe it, why did they issue, uphold, and hid the ruling, U.S. v. The Libellants and Claimants of the Schooner Amistad, Her Tackle, Apparel, and Furniture, Together with Her Cargo, and the Africans Mentioned and Described in the Several Libels and Claims, 40 U.S. 518(1841). All of the paper currency that the FRB is printing will not replace this eco-system in a law suit. AGAIN, SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
NUCLEAR – A word that provokes much thought. However, it could be the solution to our present adverse situation in the Gulf of Mexico. As a matter of fact it might be the only way to turn off the faucet. Red Adair’s principle works – snuff out the oxygen – the fire goes out. We (U.S.A.) have tactical nuclear ordnance available that could accomplish an effective snuff job; readily available in our inventory of artillery rounds. We have several sizes that would do nicely, Two men could easily handle the one that comes to my mind. Yet it is strong enough to withstand the pressures at 5,000 feet. Also easily placed in the proper position by a robotic, or manned deep water submersible. The intent – upon detonation – would be to cause an outward compression of water, ocean bottom, sand, dirt, rock, etc., creating a large sphere void of water, and all other materials. Everything except an ultra high temperature plasma which would melt down and weld all pipe and all other well equipment into a slug of slag that would effectively seal-off any and all well pipe(s) releasing crude oil and gas. The large sphere (nuclear activity having expired) would then (due to immense surrounding water pressure) implode, and completely cover and seal any remnants of the original oil well. The particular ordnance (due to it’s design to be utilized in tactical warfare situations) emits very low levels of radiation, and can be handled and used with ease and safety.
