Here’s the state of play with the 2.2 GW New York solar bill.
Last week, the Assembly passed their version (5060d), 76-16. Earlier, in April, the Senate passed their version (S2522) unanimously.
The good news: both bills are for 10 year, 2.2 GW solar programs that will transform New York’s solar industry, and there was overwhelming support for solar in both chambers.
The bad: the bills differ in minor details, and they need to be reconciled and delivered the the Governor’s desk before the end of session before it can become law.
The people have spoken — polls show supermajority support for solar. Democracy has spoken: both chambers passed, overwhelmingly, bills for a 10 year, 2.2 GW program. The PSC got the job done on a tripling of the net metering cap.
Now its up to leadership to get it together and make it happen. The only thing that stands in the way of progress is politics.
