Global Renewable Energy Jobs Grew By 14 Percent in 2013, Study Says

written by Yale Environment 360

Renewable energy jobs grew by 14 percent to 6.5 million employees worldwide last year, led by the solar panel industry, according to a new report from the International Renewable Energy Agency. Employing a total of 2.6 million workers in renewable energy jobs, China led in hiring last year, followed by Brazil and the United States.

The solar industry — spurred by increasing photovoltaic panel installations in Asia and falling prices — employed 2.27 million workers at the end of 2013, largely concentrated in China, the report said.

The biofuel industry, with 1.45 million employees, and wind energy, with 830,000, were the second- and third-largest employers.

Although policy changes in several countries have reduced wind energy installation jobs, operations and maintenance positions have experienced some growth, according to the report.

Reports of Clean Energy’s Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated

written by Walter Wang

If the notion “he who lives by the subsidy dies by the subsidy” is true, then oil, gas and nuclear companies must be dying a thousand deaths.

“A Sad Green Story,” the recent New York Times article by David Brooks, is way off the mark with where we need to go as a country and as an entire planet. Now is not the time to malign investments in

written by Walter Wang

Our nation’s capital is swirling with hot air about the fate of energy-related jobs, from fossil fuel (the high-profile Keystone XL pipeline) and wind energy, specifically the expiration of the federal production tax credit (PTC) for wind and geothermal power facilities.

February 21st was the deadline established by

Wind Industry Makes $10 Billion Case for Tax Credit

written by Walter Wang

Nearing grid parity, wind industry wants to “finish the job”

As much as they wished otherwise, the seemingly annual rite whereby the wind industry trots out all those nifty pie charts and bar graphs explaining why extending the Production Tax Credit for renewable energy (PTC) makes good sense is once again upon us.

How Obama Could Get His Job Groove Back

written by Walter Wang

I wrote back in January about how more private sector jobs had been created in 2010 than in Bush’s entire 8 years in office. I think this was a significant accomplishment. But there were and are a number of things hindering continued growth, some more complicated than others. But knowing how American voters vote (i.e.
