NEXTracker Achieves 1 Gigawatt Solar Tracker Sales In India

The world’s leading solar power tracker company NEXTracker has achieved a major milestone in one of the world’s fastest growing solar power markets.

NEXTracker recently announced that it has now sold more than 1 gigawatts in solar trackers to projects in India.

“We are appreciative to be partnering on over 1 GW of solar power plants with many of India’s leading renewable energy firms,” stated NEXTracker CEO Dan Shugar. “We have designed the most flexible single-axis tracker to fit a wide range of project attributes in India such as property shape and size, terrain profile, voltage, and wind speed. We have significantly invested and grown our Hyderabad team, and have adapted our product for local conditions, supporting dozens of projects that are under present construction.”

NEXTracker has worked with some of the leading IPPs in India including Adani Green Energy, SkyPower, Suzlon Energy, CleanMax Solar, and ReNew Power Ventures. With Adani Green Energy, NEXTracker commissioned India’s largest tracker-equipped solar power project. While delivering trackers to Adani Green Energy’s Punjab-based project NEXTracker had indicated that it could receive more orders from the IPP.

Earlier this year, the company announced plans to set up a manufacturing facility in India to cater to the growing demand. The company has right reasons to expand manufacturing in the country which could soon become the third-largest solar power market in the world.

The company believes that the solar tracker market would increase from 7% in 2016 to 31% in 2021 with the massive push for large-scale project in India.

NEXTracker may receive support from the government under the Make In India program as well as special incentives planned for manufacturers of solar power modules and equipment. As per a draft plan discussed by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy last year, the government is looking to offer direct subsidies to manufacturers, be it Indian or foreign, willing to set up manufacturing units in the country. The subsidies could be in the form interest subvention or cheaper loans.

GTM Research noted that NEXTracker remained the leading solar power tracker for a second consecutive year in 2016 and increased its global share in trackers market from 24% to 30%. NEXTracker also recently shipped trackers to the largest solar power project in the western hemisphere. The project, located in Northern Mexico, will have an installed capacity of 752 megawatts and is owned by a subsidiary of Enel Green Power.

NEXTracker To Supply Trackers To The Largest Solar Power Project In The Western Hemisphere

California-based NEXTracker has landed the contract to supply solar trackers to the largest solar power project in the Americas and the western hemisphere.

NEXTracker recently announced that it has already shipped trackers for more than 200 megawatts capacity to a project in Northern Mexico. While the company did not name the project, it is easy to identify the project of this size. A subsidiary of Enel Green Power recently initiated construction of 752 megawatts solar power park.

The Villanueva solar power park will comprise of two projects that Enel secured through competitive auctions – 427 MW1 Villanueva 1 and 327 MW1 Villanueva 3. The solar power park is expected to begin generation in H2 2018. An estimated 1,700 GWh electricity would be generated from the park every year enough to meet power consumption of over 1.3 million households. The projects shall also offset more than 780,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. Enel Green Power will invest $650 million on these projects.

NEXTracker will support the project by supplying single-axis tracker technology. Over the few months NEXTracker has landed some very large contracts across the world which have enabled the company to expand its portfolio to 8 gigawatts globally.

Adani Green Energy commissioned a 105 megawatts project, one of the largest in north India last year and used NEXTracker equipment. Being one of the fastest growing solar power markets in the world, India will soon host a manufacturing facility of NEXTracker.

The company has already signed agreements with various project developers in India to supply 1 gigawatts of trackers. NEXTracker looks set up expand its presence in India where solar tracker market is expected to increase from 7% in 2016 to 31% in 2021.

NEXTracker To Set Up Manufacturing Facility In India

US-based solar tracker manufacturer NEXTracker will have a manufacturing facility in India operational over the next six months in an attempt to grab a share in the rapidly expanding solar power market in the country.

NEXTracker will set up a manufacturing facility in the northern part of India over the next six months, NEXTracker Vice President Emerging Markets Nava Akkineni told media personnel recently. The company boasts 15-20% increase in efficiency in solar power generation following installation of its trackers.

The company has already signed deals and agreements with local firms to supply trackers for 1 gigawatts of solar power capacity. These orders are expected to be completed this year.

NEXTracker’s decision to set up a local manufacturing unit in India comes at the right time as the country’s solar power market is set for an exponential growth over the next few years. The company believes that the solar tracker market would increase from 7% in 2016 to 31% in 2021 with the massive push for large-scale project in India.

Adani Working On India’s Largest Tracker-based Solar Power Project

Adani Green Energy has reported progress on the development of what will be the largest tracker-based solar power project in India.

Adani Green Energy is setting up a 105 MW solar power project in the northern state of Punjab. The company had secured the project through competitive bidding under the state’s solar power policy. The project will use trackers provided by NEXTracker.

NEXTracker recently delivered the trackers to the project site. According to a press release issued by NEXTracker, this association marks only the first phase of engaged with Adani Green Energy. The Indian project developer has pledged to add 10 GW solar power capacity by March 2022; this constitutes 10% of the planned operational solar power capacity in the country at that time.

Adani Green Energy has a very ambitious expansion plan in the Indian solar power market. The company has been aggressively participating in the solar power auctions around the country and has also signed agreements with state governments to set up large-scale solar power parks directly.

Additionally, the company is also planning to set up perhaps the largest solar power equipment manufacturing unit in the western state of Gujarat. First phase of the unit is expected to be operationalised by March 2017 and will have production capacity of 1.2 GW; a second phase is expected to be operational by June 2017 increasing the production capacity to 2 GW.
