Tata Power Solar Commissions India’s Largest Domestic Content Solar Power Project

Tata Power Solar Commissions India’s Largest Domestic Content Solar Power Project

written by saurabh

Indian solar module manufacturers may get a phycological boost as the country’s largest solar power project using Indian-made equipment was recently commissioned.

One of the Indian largest integrated solar companies, Tata Power Solar, a subsidiary of Tata Power has announced that it commissioned 100 MW solar project for NTPC in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.

In line with the Indian government’s Make-In-India initiative, project comprises of domestically manufactured solar cells and modules. This project has become the largest project to be commissioned under Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) category.

Project is built on a 500-acre site consisting of natural streams and hillocks which remain untouched during the project construction to maintain natural ecosystem. It is expected to generate nearly 160 million units (kWh) of energy and would help to offset approximately 110,000 tonnes of CO2 every year. It has also generated employment for 50 local people.

The project is part of the Anantapur ultra mega solar power project. The project now has an installed capacity of 250 MW. The second phase of the solar park will have 750 MW capacity; an additional 500 MW capacity shall come up at a different site within the state.

Tata Power Solar has delivered this project three months ahead of stipulated timelines. Project consists of innovative Balance-of-System (BoS) and cabling design along with optimised selection of evacuation infrastructure.

Tata Power Solar and NTPC have a strong track record of delivering projects in collaboration. Earlier, they have delivered 50 MW solar project using domestically made cells and modules in Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh in 2014.

Till Now, Tata Power solar has commissioned over 250 MW of ground-mount utility scale projects across India.

India’s NTPC Expands Andhra Pradesh Solar Park To 250 MW

India’s NTPC Expands Andhra Pradesh Solar Park To 250 MW

written by saurabh

First phase of one of India’s largest solar power parks has now been commissioned.

India’s largest power generating company – NTPC Limited has announced commissioning of 50 MW of solar power project at Anantapuram solar park in the state of Andhra Pradesh. With the commissioning of 50 MW solar project, the phase-I of the solar park is fully operational. 200 MW capacity at the solar power park was operationalised in May 2016.

The Anantapuram ultra mega solar power project is planned to have a total capacity of 1.5 GW spread across two sites within the Anantapurum district. The second phase of the solar park will have 750 MW capacity. Both the phases will be located at district Kunta. The balance 500 MW capacity shall come up at Galiveedu.

Last year, Tata Power Solar was awarded 100 MW capacity while Lanco Solar, BHEL and Sterling and Wilson were awarded 50 MW capacity each. Entire 250 MW capacity under Phase-I is now commissioned successfully. The phase-II is expected to be operational by April next year.

The solar power park is among the several similar projects being set up by NTPC Limited. With the commissioning of 50 MW solar project at solar park, NTPC’s installed power projects capacity reached 47,228 MW.  The Indian government has launched an ultra mega solar power projects scheme that will see around 20 GW commissioned.

India’s NTPC May Expand Renewable Energy Plans

India’s NTPC May Expand Renewable Energy Plans

written by saurabh

India’s largest power generation is looking at possibilities to expand its renewable energy capacity addition plan.

NTPC Limited plans to boost its power generation portfolio by revisiting its renewable energy business plan. The company expects to add 1 GW of wind projects and 10 GW of solar projects to its current renewable energy portfolio.

According to the company’s senior executive, the new plan will be in line with the country’s aim of generating 175 GW renewable energy by 2022. The company envisaged 128 GW of power generation by 2032 out of which 28% is expected to come from renewable energy. The company’s current power generation capacity stands at 47 GW of which renewable energy constitutes 11%.

NTPC would raise Rs 20,000 crore (US$3 billion) this fiscal to fund its expansion plan. Out of this Rs 6,000-7,000 crore (US$0.9-1.1 billion) would come from international bond markets and the balance would be sourced from rupee loans and bonds in India.

NTPC currently has 24 GW of projects under various stages of development. Recently, NTPC has invited bids for 625 MW of solar PV at the Ananthapuramu Ultra Mega Solar Park in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The solar power park will eventually have an installed base of 1.5 GW and 200 MW is already operational.

NTPC Limited has been chosen to set up a number of solar power parks. The company has a pipeline of 3.5 GW of solar power capacity. It will set up UMPPs in Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh.
