Will You Occupy Rooftops On Community Solar Day?

For over 40 days, disenfranchised Americans have been occupying parks, streets, and plazas all over the country. Many are beginning to realize that those fighting for environmental justice and those fighting for economic justice share a common enemy.

Solar Mosaic, a unique company that allows communities to crowdfund renewable energy projects, has planned a worldwide Meetup called “Community Solar Day” on November 20th.

“Protesting this unfettered greed is certainly part of the solution. We know from the WTO anti-globalizations rallies in 1999 and the more recent Arab Spring demonstrations that protests work. But they only work if the protesters are able to show what the alternative world they envision actually looks like,” reads the Solar Mosaic blog. “Community solar certainly isn’t all of the answer–there are tax loopholes and inequitable corporate subsidies to be dealt with too, but in terms of positive actions that we can do now, without waiting on our politicians, creating solar projects on buildings in our communities is certainly a great place to start.”

On November 20th, Solar Mosaic encourages people get together with friends to kickstart a solar project by taking a photo at (or on the roof) of the building you want to help go solar.
