One of the first projects auctioned by India’s largest power generating company – NTPC Limited – in its aggressive solar power drive has now commissioned, partially.
NTPC Limited has announced that power generation from 200 MW capacity, of the total 250 MW auctioned last year for the Anantapurum solar power park in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The project is planned to have a total capacity of 1.5 GW spread across two sites within the Anantapurum district.
Phase 1 of the solar park will have 250 MW capacity, the second phase will have 750 MW capacity. Both the phases will be located at Kunta. The balance 500 MW capacity shall come up at Galiveedu.
Last year, Tata Power Solar was awarded 100 MW capacity while Lanco Solar, BHEL and Sterling and Wilson were awarded 50 MW capacity each. 200 of this awarded capacity has been commissioned with 50 MW capacity is expected to be operational by October this year.
The solar power park is among the several similar projects being set up by NTPC Limited. The Indian government has launched an ultra mega solar power projects scheme that will see around 20 GW commissioned.
